I have Vista 32-bit Ultimate on my laptop that is completely up to date. I
have bought a brand new microsoft notebook wireless optical mouse 3000 and it
won't install. I've gone to the microsoft website and downloaded and
installed intellipoint 6.2 like the "problems and solutions" center says to
do and after reboot the computer still says it needs to install the driver,
can't find it, etc. When I try to reinstall it it says I have to uninstall
it. When I do that my laptop mouse pad stops working as well and I have to
do a system restore, and I'm back where I started. I'm fed up! After 2 days
of going round and round with this crap I've concluded that microsoft should
not try to make software. I'm ready to take the stupid mouse back and buying
a different brand or forget it altogether! Does anyone have any ideas?

Microsoft do not make the mouse software.. the mouse manufacturer is
responsible for that..

Are you installing the software BEFORE installing the wireless dongle? Are
you following the instructions EXACTLY?

The instructions just say insert battery, plug in receiver, position mouse, and how to restore connection. Nothing about software. So I did that and my computer said it needed to install the software and couldn't find it anywhere. It asked me to plug in a disc and there isn't one. I chose the "automatically search" choice and it couldn't find it, I chose the "search my computer" choice and had it search my whole C drive, and it couldn't find it. So I gave up. Then the "solve your computer problems" popup up appeared and the solution gave me the microsoft hardware link and told me to download the software from there. So I did. I installed it. It said to restart my computer. I did. The computer said it found new hardware, needed to install the driver and couldn't find it. I tried to reinstall the driver by double clicking on the file I had downloaded and through the device driver and both times it said it was already installed and I needed to uninstall it first. I
uninstalled it. Now my laptop touchpad is disabled and my new wireless mouse doesn't work, either. I do a system restore and start over. This time I try installing the software first and the whole cycle starts over again. Nothing has changed. Today I'm going back to Circuit City where I bought the mouse so I can pick up my new HDTV, so since I'll be there anyway, this mouse is going back there with me and I'm leaving it there. It just shouldn't be this hard. I'm done. I do really appreciate your trying to help, though.
