Can't install Metal Gear solid and other games

I just upgrade from windows 98 to XP home Serv Pack 1. When I try to run setup in Metal Gear, all I get is a pop-up dialog box with an exclamation point, with no text. I have no idea what XP is complaining about. My account is the administrator.

Is there somthinig I have to do to install correctly?

Was it an upgrade or a clean install? What's the other games?

I did a clean install using my 98 disk and XP upgrade disk. The otehr games are star lancer, crimson skies. I have installed Age of empires II with no problems.
