Can't install Messenger 5

I have XP Pro running Windows Messenger 4.7 and just
tried to update to 5.0. I downloaded the install file and
ran it. One of the first steps of the install routine
instructs me to exit Messenger by right clicking the
taskbar icon and selecting Exit. When I do this, I get an
error message that says it can't exit Messenger because
some other program is using it (i.e. Outlook Express,
etc.) To my knowledge, there is no other program running
that is using Messenger. How do I exit Windows Messenger
4.7 to get the proper install environment for Windows
Messenger 5.0?

Dear Ray,

if you are using NAV 2003 this program may be "using" WM. Uncheck the
scanning of mesaages in the options menu. This solved the problem for me.

I figured it out. Norton Antivirus 2003 had to have the
Messenger checkbox unselected under the Options menu.
Also, you can not turn it back on after installation of
Windows Messenger 5.0 as a note on the particular option
states it will only work with versions 4.6 and 4.7.
