I have been running anti spyware hrough several builds on my XP laptop. a
couple of months ago I got notification that my old version had expired and I
should install the newer one. I think I remember that the other computers on
my home network updated automatically. i still have not installed the newest
build on this one because every time i download and then run the installation
i get the message "Setup for Microsoft Anti- Spyware has encountered a
problem and has to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience. I have used
ADD/Subtract to try to get rid of any vestage of previous versions but I
still encounter the same problem.

Hello Oled:

You can repair Windows AntiSpyware using Add or Remove Programs in Control
Panel. Click Microsoft AntiSpyware and click Change. Click Next, and then
click Updªte.

Let us know how it works ºut

The first time I saw the message and could not install the new version I went
to Add or remove programs and removed microsoft anti spyware. I then tried
installing again to no avail. Every attemp to install a new version results
in the same message. There is no indication that MS Anti spyware is installed
on my computer in Add Remove of control panel.

Try deleting the entire contents of c:\program files\microsoft antispyware,
reboot, and then try to install the app.

If that fails, try using the Windows Install Clean Up utility. If you see
Microsoft AntiSpyware listed, select it and click the 'Remove' button to
remove all Windows Installer files associated with MSAS, and then install the
app.

utility does not show andy

msas installed but I get the same results as before when I try to download
