Can't Install IE6 SP1 on Windows 2K

Hello.

No matter what I try, I can't install Internet Explorer SP1 for 2000 Pro on
my 2000 Pro PC. Setup starts, and it gives me two "Driver not Digitally
Signed" errors. I can click OK to the first, but the second, "Microsoft
Windows Script 5.6 for Windows 2000", when I click OK, I get a "Setup unable
to install all components." error and IE 6 NEVER INSTALLS.

I have tried using GPEdit.msc to allow Programs to install without prompting
for drivers, but that doesn't work. I have also tried installing from two
sources, Microsoft.com and a TurboTax CD, in case version numbers are
different.

Anyone know what's going on?

Have you got IE6 installed, and trying to apply SP1, or trying to go from
<IE6 to IE6 SP1?

It could be a broken file in the "Windows Update Setup Files" directory in
%systemroot%. (IIRC that's where it is)

You can safely remove the whole directory, but will have to re-download the
setup files which can be a fair few MB.

Have you ensured that you have run chkdsk on the system volume? Are you
running the install with Administrator rights? Got plenty of free disk space?

Also have you tried running an Internet Explorer Repair using Add/Remove
Programs? That could fix an existing broken file or similar that's causing
the upgrade problem.
