I can't seem to be able to installer the Hyper-V Manager on my Windows Vista
Business x64 with SP2
I have enabled the RSATs and it is not one of the options.
so i have downloaded the patches from KBs 970203, 941314, 952627. I always
get this error: The update does not apply to your system

where can i get the Hyper-V manager? thanks
m

it came preinstalled on my Lenovo W500 notebook

Not much information - "...The update does not apply to your system..."
statement infers you so not have a hyper-v server installed.

of course there is no hyper-v server installed on the vista system, but
there surely is on installed on a WIN2K8 server in the local network (not on
the domain though). I can RDP to it

Hyper-V can be used by Vista but not with Home and or Pro. Ultimate and Enterprise
will work

as i mentioned below i am using Windows Vista Business x64 with service pack
2
so it should work, but it isn't.
i am trying to understand why. is it because i am downloading the wrong
patch or is there a system configuration problem? or is it something else?

Only on Vista Ultimate or Vista Enterprise and of course on W2K8 Server

Sorry that I left out the Vista Business version from my previous post stating that
Hyper-V cannot work with Vista Home and Pro

Was that supposed to make things clearer?

Windows Vista Business x64 is certainly supported. I have installed it
on this machine which runs Vista Business x64.

Here is the message from the download site.

System Requirements
Supported Operating Systems: Windows Vista Business 64-bit edition; Windows
Vista Enterprise 64-bit edition; Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit edition
Service Pack 1 (SP1) or later versions of Windows Vista Service Packs is
required.

Just an observation.

The download link is for x86 version.
IIRC the OP stated in the first post that he uses x64 Vista. So I guess an
x64 version is needed here.

this was it!
i was able to install the hyper-v manage.

however, when i try to connect the the hyper-v server i get a message that i
don't have the required permission to complete the task. i need to contact
the admin of the authorization policy for the computer. I downloaded
HVRemote and tried to run that, but i think the problem is that the host is
in a workgroup and my Vista client is in a domain.
Now, how do i set up the authorizations?
again thanks for helping resolve the first part of the issue
