cant install half-life update!!

it comes up with "you cannection to the internet is
invalid. please check your settings and try again". i
used to have 56k modem, now have adsl. both of them do
not work... WHY!!!!!!!!!!! oh and it also says SIGSPAT

Hi Shaun,
So this message is coming from library or second computer..heh!
Using a dial-up modem is different in many ways frm a DSL connection,
did you happen to just have DSL installed? Hardware will be configured
differently as will the connection process in your computer software.
Some people have just one computer running to the DSL, some people use
connection sharing with one computer connected to DSL. Others still, have a
hub that is connected to the DSL line with a router. In any case you will
have to configure the software to work with the hardware.
Your machine sounds like the connection configuration was never changed.
It may be trying to use the dial-up when in fact it can go directly via dsl.
Whoever setup the DSL should have provided you with some soft of
configuration software or settings. You will also need information from you
ISP (Internet Service Provider).
If you provide us with the hardware configuration (how you want it to
work) we can likely give you some help.

Hi;

I beleive that Sierra's online update feature no longer works..
This is the same message everyone I know is getting from the
Sierra online auto updater, regardless of type of internet connection.

I suggest you try the newsgroup: alt.games.half-life and ask for
download sites for the half life updates. Or try half-life sites that
are maintained, such as http://www.planethalflife.com/
