Ken

Every time I try to install any of the Mechwarrior games:
1) I first have to change the install directory because I
get the message that it cannot create the game
directories in the Program Files Directory...

2) When I change the default install directory, after
about 3% of the game install, my computer emits a loud
continous tone and locks up.

ANY IDEAS? PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ken,

Make absolutely sure that your processor isn't overheating.
I've heard that type of sound emitted from a few systems
that were running too hot.

Why can't you install in the Program Files directory? Are you installing
as a limited user? Is your drive full?

Regarding suggestions - I haven't seen this behavior before. Have you done
the standard steps of running as administrator, disabling memory resident
programs like antivirus software, filewalls, startup applets, etc.

Check your CDROM settins and make sure DMA mode is enabled. Check your
drive settings and make sure it's properly set to master or slave. You may
be running into an issue with cable select where the drive is improperly
calling itself the master (or slave) and messing with another IDE device.
Also check your manufacturers site for updated firmware for your drive. It
wouldn't hurt to clean the cd too!

If you have another optical drive in your system - such as a cd burner or
DVD drive - try install the game on that device.
