Hi,
I just bought Flight Simulator X Deluxe Edition and it won't install.
I'm trying to install it on a Lenovo ThinkPad T60: 2 GHz Centrino Duo T2500
CPU, 2 GB RAM, 37 GB free disk space, DirectX 9.0c, and ATI Mobility Radeon
X1400 with 512 MB video memory. The OS is Windows XP Pro SP2 and according
to Windows Update it's fully patched.
When I insert the first disk, I hear the disk spin and then my computer
locks up. When I open up the task manager, one of the svchost.exe processes
is running at 50% and has maxed out one of the CPUs. If I have an Explorer
window open so I can see my DVD drive, the name of the DVD never appears in
the Explorer window. While the mouse moves and the screen still refreshes,
Windows stops responding at this point. I can't use any other applications,
open the Start menu, log off or shut down. The Task Manager won't let me end
the svchost.exe process. The only way I've been able to get out of the lock
up is to hold down the power button to shut off the computer and then restart
my laptop.
I tried reinstalling MSI 3.1 in case the installer had gotten corrupted but
that didn't help.
I've also tried turning off the anti-virus (McAfee), disconnecting all
network connections, and exiting all background applications from the system
tray and then installing but that didn't help either.
I've looked on fsinsider.com but couldn't find any info there.
I tried to use Microsoft Support's e-mail or chat help, but that asks for a
product ID which I don't have since the software isn't installed.
I looked through the other FSX posts here but didn't see anything similar to
my problem.
HELP! Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance.
