I'm trying to install Direct9.0b and it doesn't work. I
haven't seen my problem on the FAQs anywhere, so here goes:

When it gets to the "copying files" part, it stops at a
file called d3d8thk.dll (I think). It then says "Failed to
Copy a File" and quits.

Any ideas?
Thanks

I had the same problem, The solution is going be $$$
cause you have to buy a video card that supports DirecX
9.0 and the are a little expensive.

DirectX 9.0 is the new thing, what I mean is that since
2000 8.0 was the standard so all companies make all
softwares and hardwares compatible for this. Now a lot of
people is going to get a card that supports the new
format.

Roll back to a restore point prior to attempting the Direct X 9.0 for the
1st time, so if you tried to install Direct X 9.0 for the very first time 3
days ago then use a restore point at least 4 days old. Shut down all
background programs and then attempt a reinstall of Direct X 9.0.

Unfortunately, it's been about a month and a half since I
first attempted to install. XP goes through the motions of
restoring and then says "system restore failed. No changes
have been made, etc."

DirectX can't be uninstalled, can it?

Not true. DirectX 9.0b is completely compatible with older video cards--even
if they don't support DirectX at all.

Otherwise, you'd have to get either an ATI 9xxx or a GeForceFX. Only the ATI
card existed when DirectX 9 came into being.

Either update you video card drivers, or do a system rollback. Also, note
that DirectX isn't just for your video; it supports your input devices, your
network card, and your sound card.

Well, I've updated the driver (I've got a Geforce MX 420,
btw) and I initially tried to install DirectX 9 over a
month ago. System restore goes through the motions but
won't actually restore that far back (I guess).

Any other ideas?

Thanks,
zach
