Hi not sure im on the right forum but my pc wont install any programs
including updates they get to 38-39% then just freeze i have a notebook so
cant even use discs and pc just states cannot install updates as your
computer has a problem but doesnt state what the problem is and no error
messages.can anybody help me ??thanks

the issue can be caused
by several things.

what I would first do is to
ensure the disk is not the
cause of the problem.

for example the disk may
be low on space and/or
highly fragmented and / or
dirty, which would require
a clean bill of health to be
issued by a check disk
command.

another factor involved
may be active anti viral
programs.

disabling them during
downloads from microsoft
is safe and may help.

Hi thanks for your help problem is tho i dont have disc drive on notebook so
cant use a disc to install anything (i know stupid buyin laptop without
drive) also tried to turn off anti virus and still not downloading...it was
working fine and its a new laptop just all of a sudden it stopped downloading

well, I think there is
some confusion here.

when I inferred to "disk"
I meant your hard drive
and not disk drive, like
in cd or dvd.

we can be sure that you
do have a "hard disk"
because if you didn't
you wouldn't have any
programs on the computer.

so if you can, re read my
previous suggestion with
the understanding that I
am inferring to your hard
disk.

then let me/us know what
you think afterwards.

Click Start > Run>cmd

move the command window
over to one side of the screen.

then from this side copy
and paste the below

one line at a time

at the disk prompt>:

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 msxml.dll
regsvr32 msxml3.dll
regsvr32 msxml2.dll
regsvr32 qmgr.dll
regsvr32 qmgrprxy.dll

--------------------
afterwards retry the
updating feature of
windows.

didnt work either each 1 came up with a box stating the name and then
succeeded so i tried installing an update and this is the message i get
Problem: A problem on your computer is preventing updates from being
downloaded or installed
Solution: To fix the problem, try installing the updates again. If that
doesn't work, use the Troubleshooter to try solve the problem.

but theres nothing in trouble shooter to help either been trying for days to
look things up and the messgae dont state what "problem" it is so bit hard to
find solutions to problems when u have no idea what the problem is

Your computer has log files on it. For example, try looking in
C:\WINDOWS\WindowsUpdate.log near the end of the file. Perhaps
there is a hint there as to the problem.

You can probably try keywords like "Windows Update Troubleshooter"
to find more help.

if your windows is
"activated" and

your "anti virus" and
"firewall" are disabled,

and in services via
admin tools the
"auto updates" is enabled

and "bits" is enabled

and "error reporting" is
enabled

and still you can't update
then let microsoft work
on the issue.

microsoft provides no-
charge technical assistance
for issues involving updates.

use the internet explorer
browser to take you to
the update website and
carefully look around for
the links that will provide
support.

here is the link you
need:

http://support.microsoft.com/select/default.aspx?target=assistance&c1=509&

look for the hyperlink
"windows update"
to begin the process
of submitting a ticket.

incidentally, once they
figure it out,

don't forget to post the
solution here so that
others can benefit.

ok?
