can't install all-in-one printer software on Vista

I have a new computer that came loaded with Vista. I have a notebook with XP.
I have been using my HP all-in-one with my notebook just fine. I tried
loading the software on my new computer (that has Vista) and i could not get
the software to load. I was able to set up the printer using "add hardware"
and was able to print, but the software (on a CD) lets me do a lot more than
just print. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I saw the info on printing
with a network and will bookmark it for use when I set up my network. Thanks
again.

Check the website for the all-in-one to see if the software is available for
Vista. If not contact their customer or tech support and request it. It
will probably be months before a lot of the hardware and supporting software
will be Vista compatible. Was the same with XP when it first came out.

HP does not have drivers for vista users yet if you go to the HP support
site you can sign up to recieve email when the drivers and software become
available there is no promise of when that will be....

I went to the HP site, and there is no updates as of yet.
Hope my all-in-one doesn't become obsolete before I can use it's functions.
Thanks for the input.

You don't need the HP software to use it. I have one of the ones that has
wireless connectivity, and I connect to it from both my big XP machine
and my laptop running Vista without a problem. Vista has a scanning
app, a fax app I believe, and printing, of course. There are instructions
on the HP web site. If you can't find them, just send in a support email
request and they will get back to you with instructions on how to set it
up. This is what I had to do, because I couldn't find the instructions on
my own. Note that they said that eventually they will update there apps
for Vista, but I wouldn't hold my breath. One of the XP updates broke
them on my machine.

Same problem here. Contacted HP for support and they
said that if the printer is out of warranty it would cost me $65 for the technical support I'll need. Sounds like a scam!!

Perhaps not relevant. But I just bought an OfficeJet 6210 All In One on the
cheap ($99). It prints and scans perfectly in Vista with no specaial
drivers. When I have it on an XP computer on the LAN, Vista can easilty find
and print to it.

I don't know what your issue was but out of warranty tech support is ALWAYS
expensive. And since you can get an all-in-one for a hair more than the
phone call, why bother?

My all-in-one does not have wireless connectivity. I can get Vista to print
using the drivers in Vista, but when the HP software CD loaded onto the
notebook with XP, it has some really nice applications besides just printing.
That is what I am trying to access but from what everyone is saying here, I
will just use it as a printer with Vista and use the other apps from the
notebook. When it dies, I won't buy HP again I guess.
:(
Thanks to all that answered my call for help!
:)

don't like hearing no Vista version of the driver will not be produced ... i
called HP and they said they were working on one .. in the meantime, not
only do I not have all the features of the HP driver for Xp but the beta
driver with Vista is apparently causing my Word 2007 to crash.

Why would you blame HP when it's MS that's put hundreds of manufacturers hardware and software on the scrap heap ?
I also have the AIO printer, scanner etc.. It's still functional for all it's goodies except for creating it's own folders for scans. It scan, andprints same as before.
All you lost was the HP software. I loved using the functions from that software, for the customization. But then that's what you have page setupfor.

And HP said they're intending on releasing an upgrade for these printers.
But when you figure MS actually made stuff less than 2 years old obsolete, why would any of the other companies care about their old products ?
I just hope they do create Vista software. And you know they will be. HP isn't going out of business because of MS stupidity.

I've had nothing but good luck with HP. Replaced a printer that I clearlytold them was damaged by me when it was pulled off a counter top by theUSB cable.
I would say only other company I've had that kind of luck with is Walmart. Except for the fact that HP is above Walmart the way I see it inreplacing defective hardware and software.

Walmart would have never taken this back which is why I called HP. I justneeded to replace the connector. You can't buy the connector unless you're an authorized HP repair site. Instead they said an identical replacement is in the mail, box up the bad one and return it when the newone arrives.
Less than a week the new AIO arrived.

I'm glad you had good luck with a replacement connector! I contacted HP about
only having print capability. There answer was that they are trying to
software updates so that their products work with Vista. If they do send me
an e-mail stating that it's available, then my faith in them will be
restored. I bought the Compag desktop because we had good reliability with
their notebook, but that was when XP was out. Now with again new software
(Vista), I am beginning to loose faith in all of them.
But time will tell.

You misunderstood my last sentence. The connector was the only thing broken. HP SENT A NEW All-One_ printer/scanner. When there was NO Liability on their end to fix anything.
They didn't send a connector, an entire identical printer/scanner.
Like taking something out of Walmart, throwing it down on the ground, andtaking it back in for a NEW replacement on Walmart's dime.
Not gonna happen.

As it stands now HP is all my peripherals. Monitor vs19e 19 " LCD, PSC 2355v <-never expected any repair when I broke that connector so got a NEW scanner b4 I contacted HP, Pavilion a1723w computer. Unbelievable pricing for what's inside.
HP's service is top of the line to me, but I think way too many are also finding this out. Their email support is slowing down.
