From the DVD nothing appears on the screen except briefly and intermittently
a CD icon which means I assume that an attempt to run from that drive is
being made. As soon as Autoplay tries to run, Vista kills it.
I contrived to copy the folders from the DVD to my C: drive. Clicking to
run Autoplay as Administrator produces the Adobe
CS3 panel with 4 options, Install CS3 DEsign Premium, Read Me, Install
Reader 8, and Browse the DVD contents.
Clicking Install results in the disappearance of any box or menu, with no
error message. Occasionally on successive tries a Setup panel appears for a
fraction of a second. I have Windows and Adobe error logs which might reveal
to some one more expert than I what is stopping the show.
I have tried setting the compatibility option to run the Setup as XP SP1 (my
PC Vista HP came pre-installed, and is not an upgrade).
I have tried turning off Vista's account controls, which are customarily on.
'User Account Controls can help prevent unauthorised changes to your
computer.'
I suspect some Registry entry related to this, and wonder whether Vista's
SP1 (due later, but I need this fixed sooner) will fix my problem. I have the
latest
Windows updates.
I have tried running CS3 Setup from a new adminstrator account. I have tried
installing in Safe mode which is supposed to leave many user settings out of
action. I have tried suspending Sophos AV's on-access scanning.
