I am trying to move my Outlook 2002 data from my old
computer to my new one. I made a backup of the Outlook
data files and burned it to a CD. When I try to get
Outlook on the new machine to import the file it says
that I do not have the required permission.

My old computer was running Windows XP Home Edition - and
mine was the only account. My new system is running
Windows XP Professional - and again I am the only
account. I did not password or otherwise protect the file
so why won't Outlook import it? How can I get my files
transferred?

Make sure the file isn't marked read-only. If it's on a CD, move it to
your hard drive and remove the read-only attribute.

Look at the following two articles for further help with your issue --
one is a primer on Outlook files, and the other gives instructions for
moving to a new Outlook 2002 machine.

Copy the files off the CD to your hard disk, then unset the read-only flag.

Afraid I cannot help you, but I am having the same
problem, si if you are so kind and you do get an answer,
could you copy me on the procedure to follow? I burned my
huge pst file onto a CD to keep as backup and then be
able to delete most of the stored messages, freeing
computer memory. But as I cannot import the file from the
CD I don't dare delete messages from my C disk Outlook
file. Appreciate it, jose
