Can't hear narration

I just bought a nice microphone to record narration with Power Point. I see
in previous comments that I should not record into Power Point, but I just
want to make it as easy as possible to start out. I have tested the mic
through the Control Panel and I hear my voice playing back. But when I record
in Power Point, I just hear static. I had a cheap mic before I did
successfully record on Power Point, but it sounded terrible. Anyone know what
I need to do?

Hi Wordsmooth (nice name :-))

Please don't take this the wrong way but I had a similar problem and spent
HOURS messing with settings and checking this and that until, just before I
threw the stupid computer out the window, I discovered the mute switch on the
headset volume control...

Uh-oh. Does this mean that gray hair is functionally blonde-equivalent?
It's either that or the mute switch on my headphones is self-activating.

I'm using a heavy hand-held mic (Samson C01U) that doesn't seem to have a
mute button. Any other thoughts? Thanks. WS

When you start to record narration in PPT, at some point along the way you have the
chance to set options. Try that and see if setting a higher quality recording helps
(it'll keep resetting to lower quality so you need to reset each time you start
recording).
