My HP Pavilion came with Windows ME. I upgraded to XP
HomeEd. The package said I could go back to ME if I
didn't reformat the hard drive and change from FAT32 file
system to NT file system. I tried to reinstall Windows ME
but my OEM disks won't work. I'm trapped with a really
screwed up version of XP on my computer that I really
want to unload.

.
Boot disk format hard drive,Then install ME.
Backup your data if possible.
If data is important take to a pro. !!

First, if you didn't elect to save your setup when offered the chance during
the upgrade, then you can't non-destructively go back to ME. You also
cannot install ME over XP. You must reformat and start over as follows and
note, this procedure will wipe your hard drive losing all data currently on
that drive:

Assuming you have an ME or 98 boot floppy, boot with that. At the prompt,
type fdisk and press enter, delete the primary DOS Partition, create a new
one, set it active and exit fdisk,
reboot the system with the ME or 98 boot floppy in the drive and at the
prompt type format C: and press enter. Once format is
complete, change to your CD-ROM drive and with the ME CD in the drive,
type setup, press enter and follow the screens.

If you don't have 98 boot disk with CD-ROM support, visit www.bootdisk.com.

Hello Michael,
Thank you for your reply to my inquiry. It is the only
reply I got that actually offered any solid advice.
