Hi,I am having trouble with a sony vaio laptop running OEM
XP Home to share files over TCP/IP network. All other
mechines are win98 or 98/se. This laptop can see router
and surf/email across ADSL connection. I can even ping the
laptop from the other mechines and vice-versa. Files and
printers can't be seen and laptop can't see when searched
for. Other news groups have suggested that I install
netbios over TCP/IP but it is not available on my vendors
version of XP home. ICF is disabled and cables have been
tested. File and printer shareing is also enabled. Any
clues???? -Mike

Make sure that all pc's have same workgroup name or
domain name.

XP Pro also requires shares to be set up on folders/
files etc.

Mike,

please have a look at http://www.michna.com/kb/WxNetwork.htm.

NetBIOS over TCP/IP does not need to be installed, just enabled.

You may be confusing NetBIOS with NetBEUI. NetBIOS is an API and is
certainly available on any version of XP; NetBIOS should be enabled
over TCP/IP. NetBEUI is an old protocol, it works on but is not
supported on XP, and it is not included with the version of XP
shipped by many hardware vendors; NetBEUI is on real XP CDs.
