I'm trying to install XP on an external hard drive (my C:
drive is Win98, is low on disk space and needs to be
reformatted.) When XP copied its files, it put them on my
external HD, but when it goes into setup, it can't find
the files it put there (I have to disconnect the hard
drive when I boot, otherwise, it tries to boot from the
external HD which has no OS. While it starts to boot, I
reconnect the hard drive).
1. Does the external HD have to be formatted as a boot
drive (and how can I tell if it is or isn't)?
2. How can I tell my Win 98 to boot from C: rather than
the external drive (this would let me keep the external HD
connected and maybe XP install would recognize it)?
