Hi. My friend's laptop computer went on the fritz and I'm trying to
get it to boot from the WinXP Pro CD to repair it. I went into the
BIOS and made sure it boots from the floppy 1st, then the CDRom. But
no matter what I do, during the boot I get the error:

"Primary hard disk drive 0 not found"
"No bootable device(s) selected"
"strike F1 to retry boot, F2 for setup utility"

Nothing happens when I press F1 or F2. The only way to make it do
anything is to press the on/off button to get it to reboot.

The laptop is a Dell Latitude CPi D266XT
MagicGraph 128XD 48X SVGA BIOS

I'd just like to know why it won't boot from a floppy or CD, and if
there's anything else I can try. Thanks in advance.

why fight it?
boot using a 98 boot disk with cd support
go into your cd manually to the i386 folder
and to install type "winnt" to install

P.S. if you want to speed things up alot
before getting to your disk run the smrtdrv.exe command
found in win98
