Can't get Windows to recognize MyIE2 as default browser

I have MyIE2 installed with Internet Explorer, but I can't get Windows to
make MyIE2 my default browser. I've done all the obvious things, like
hitting the make-this-my-default-browser button, and some not so obvious
things, like SetBrowser. I even attempted -- in desperation -- replacing
some occurrences of the path to IE in my Registry to MyIE2. Nothing! Can
anyone help?

Control panel, internet options, programs. Do you see your program listed as
an option for the default browser?

All that's there that's relevant is "Internet Explorer should check to see
whether it's the default browser," which is of course unchecked.
Everything else has nothing to do with browser selection. Is there
supposed to be something else?

Oops - sorry, you're right, it isn't an option like the mail client,
etc....I should've checked first. Hope Kelly's advice helps. :)

Starting there, I found Microsoft Knowledge Base Article #810565,
"Hyperlinks Open in Internet Explorer Instead of in Default Browser or
Help and Support Center" (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?
scid=kb;en-us;810565&Product=winxp). Hope it works. I'll report back.

I've installed the update and rebooted, but IE is still my default
browser. I've even tried deleting IEXPLORE.EXE, but new ones get made.
What's going on here!

You can't delete iexplore.exe as it's a system protected file. If
you've installed SP-1 you can open Add or Remove Programs from Control
Panel and set "Program access and defaults" to not use IE.
