Can't get Vista to associate a program with a file type

I have files with .sgf extension (text files, encoded game records) and want
to have them associated with my favorite sgf editor, WinMGT, which is
installed
in \Program Files\Go\ . The change extension page of control panel doesn't
offer it as an option, but I can get to it readily using the "browse"
button.
After finding WinMGT and clicking on "open", Vista reverts to the state
where
it has just brought up the change extension page - i.e. it doesn't recognize
inputs from "browse". What to do?

When you get to it by "browse" , do you click "apply" , and "ok" ?

There is no "apply" button, only "open" or "cancel". And "open" reverts to
the previous step.
