Because MM won't recognise the Pinnacle USB as a *video* capture device.
The Pinnacle device should have been supplied with capture software
which you should use.
Just a note: If it is one of the Pinnacle "Dazzle" range of USB capture
devices, these are "passive" with no on-board processing, these are
a huge drain on a PC's resources - You will need a very powerful PC
to capture analog video via a passive USB capture device.

Very similar problem, posted this to another group a while ago but no
responses as yet. Not strictly an MM question but maybe someone here could
help.

"Friend bought one of these Dazzle Video Creators for use with a Hi-8
camcorder:

So far we have tried 2 laptops, both fairly new, HDD space and memory aren't
an issue.
Have also tried 2 different Canon Hi-8 camcorders but we simply can't get
either
PC to take in video or audio.
The Dazzle device is recognised by XP and proper drivers loaded.
Have tried both the phono and S-video connectors.
Tried a few different programs including Movie Maker, Premiere Elements,
Pinnacle Studio 10 and Ulead's DVD Movie Creator but simply get anything
from camera to PC.
Anyone else using one of these can offer a solution?"
