I took this computer from winME to win2000. The drivers on
the appropriate Asus site don't want to download. I have gotten
cv4v1001.zip but it just has a cv4v1001/awd file when I extract.
I don't know what to do with that.

Help please!!!
Thanks

To figure out what you need, examine the manual for some keywords.
For example, your chipset is "Via ProSavage PM133" and the
Northbridge is VT8605. The Northbridge contains the ProSavage
built-in graphics block, and that is what the driver is needed for.

On this Asus page, there are five drivers at the bottom with the
word "ProSavage" in the name.

"VIA ProSavageTM PM133 for Win 2000 Driver" <--- Try this one

The servers are pretty busy these days, for some reason.

You can also get ProSavage graphics drivers from Viaarena, Via's
official download site:

Select "Integrated controller graphics display driver"
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=2

On this page:
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=70

the closest driver is "VT8605 (on ProSavage PL133T)", an off-site
download. That name is not a perfect match, and bothers me a bit.

Install instructions:
http://www.viaarena.com/?PageID=34

Utility for identifying graphics block in Northbridge:
http://downloads.viaarena.com/drivers/others/Wins3id.exe

Off-site S3graphics download page:
http://ranger.s3graphics.com/viaarena/370drv/?license=accept

There are two files on here. One with an InstallShield, which might
make uninstall a little easier - I would use this one:

http://ranger.s3graphics.com/viaarena/370drv/139365IShld.zip

and this one could be an .INF style installer, for hacking:
http://ranger.s3graphics.com/viaarena/370drv/139365No_Util.zip

But again, stick with the Asus one, unless you are having problems
and want to try an alternative.

I'd try the Asus one for now.

Other drivers you might be interested in, are the Via 4in1
chipset drivers. Download those from either Asus (4in1_437) or
from Viaarena, and on Viaarena, you have to again, pay attention
to the chipset name to get the right one.

The cv4v1001.zip file, by the way, is probably a BIOS flash file.

Have fun,
Paul
