My browser does not redirect to any web site unless I
preface the url with "http://". I have always seen the
browser automatically insert this and it was never
necessary before.

Ex. www.microsoft.com - the browser goes no where
http://www.microsoft.com - the browser functions
correctly, taking me to the web site.

How do I correct this?

Try this: Internet options, advanced, search from the address bar, select the option to 'display results, and go to the most likely site.'
If this is already selected, I don't know what to tell you, I'm no expert!
(I would try selecting something else, apply. Then select it again, apply. I don't know why, but that's what I would try, can't hurt.)
If this has been changed, and no user (or administrator) of your computer could have done it, it might be spyware (I don't know why anyone would write spyware to do that, but I always suspect spyware of everything, lol!)
Post back to this thread and maybe someone who knows what they're doing can tell you more...
hope it helps...
