Dear all:
Dell PC running Windows XP Pro service pack two is having a problem giving
access to shared HP8000N printer and
a shared folder. The printer is attached to the parallel port. The printer
is shared so that all users have full control of the printer.
the folder is shared so that all users have full rights.
There are two Dell Dimension Windows XP HOME edition service pack two
computers that have to print to the printer on the
XP PRO system and need access to the shared folder on the XP PRO system.
Neither XP home system will attach to the printer on the XP PRO system
without logging in to it over the network.
By this I mean they have to use "connect to" in my network places for that
printer, and it asks for a username and password.
In addition, in my network places, under workgroup computers, when clicking
the XP PRO station,
it asks them for a username and password there. They are not automatically
authenticated.
why do my users have to log on to the XP pro machine? they should not have
to.
All firewalls, antivirus and antispyware programs were dropped , disabled or
removed. No difference was found.
They are all running tcpip, file and printer sharing, qos and client for
Microsoft networks. Same workgroup name,
same IP subnet.
What am I doing wrong?
Thank you in advance,
James Long
