Can't get to safe mode !

I have tried other news groups but still no help.

When I try to boot into safe mode ) with F8), The computer loads down to
where it tries to load a file called "MUP.SYS", then it goes no farther.
Any suggestions?

I just started getting the same thing last night. In addition, I also lost my access to the internet. DSL with LAN/router - that is working fine, just can't do anything
The only things I deleted were some old system files from a previous XP load on my now backup hard drive
Somehow these files must have still been in use, even with a very unique parent directory name. Was getting "access denied" errors during delete process
I'm having a friend make a disk with the latest full Service Pack install, and will attempt that reload to see if the missing/corrupt files get replaced. Will advise
