Can't get to newsgroups.

I have an XP machine with IE 6.0. When I log on as myself, I can get to
support.microsoft.com/newsgroups. I can then select English and one of the
groups, e.g. Office > Excel. However, when I select a specific newsgroup,
e.g. Excel Programming, I get an error message that says this page can not be
displayed. I get the same error no matter which group I try to get to.

However, when I try the same thing logged on as my wife, I get to the
newsgroup. I haven't changed any IE settings that I am aware of, but
something is set differently.

Any ideas?

TIA.

Hi Ken :-)

Sorry that I don't have an answer for your problem, but, you might find
using Outlook Express, which comes with IE6, as your default newsreader much
easier in accessing the MS newsgroups than the Internet access. If you
would like to set up OE to use the same MS newsgroups, as well as others,
just follow these directions:

How to set up an MS newsgroup in OE

In OE go to Tools>Accounts>Add (or New)>News.
Set up an account for this news server:

msnews.microsoft.com

Scroll down the list to the groups you want to subscribe to and then click
Subscribe. When done, click OK

The server is free and does not require you to logon. This news server
carries over 2200 newsgroups related to Microsoft products and keeps
messages at least 30 days.

Hope this helps :-)

What happens when you try to open the newsgroup?
E.g. you know what was in the frame before and what should be in it
after and so do we but what do you see?

Use the Status bar to get some clues and toggle Fullscreen mode
to give it as much visibility as possible. (Set the Status bar on in that
mode if necessary, Alt-V,B). Also you can slow the transitions down
by using Prompts from your Security settings. Do the same test
using your wife's account and compare the diagnostics.

Good luck
