Can't get to Microsoft.com

What would prevent me from getting to some sites but others work perfect and
speedy?
I cannot get to any of the MS sites, updates etc. I can get to IBM.COM,
google.com, yahoo.com. google search links work ok (except the one to
windowsupdate).

Windows 2K, IE 5.0. I know 5.0, but I can't get to windows site to get
the update.

I even reloaded IE5.0 from CD (newest I had), no change.

Any ideas?

If you don't have any anti-virus/firewall software installed then you
could do an online

scan at RAV:
http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

and/or Panda:
http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/activescan_principal.htm

If you run Windows XP and you don't have a firewall installed then at
least turn on XPs

firewall:
"Use the Internet Connection Firewall"

Check your "hosts" file and see if that one is corrupted. It should
contain only one line:
"127.0.0.1 localhost"
