I have uninstalled Windows Messenger from 'add/remove
windows components', but the icon still pops up on my
taskbar. I have never signed in, and I do not use the
messenger, so I do not want it running and I do not want it
on the taskbar. Can anyone tell me how to remove it completely?

Gareth

Ok, so you can't get rid of Messenger ok.
There are to thinks you can do.
1) Establish if messenger is on this function:
C:\program\Messenger, is there, and if it is try to
delete the folder, and if you get the message; can't
remove.
Try number2

2) The last thing you can do is to use an anti-virus
program, and put the file .exe in "lock "content" so the
file don't work...

Pleas notes: That deleting or "locking" an .exe file can
make your system malfunction in some thinks.
NB: If you fallow my answerer IT IS ON YOUR OWN
RESPOLESBELYTY.
If non of the thinks work contackt MSN, at
http://www.messenger.com
Support center.

Greetings Gareth,

To remove it completely, close down Messenger if it's running (right click the messenger icon
in the
notification area/system tray and click close). Then click the start button, then click Run
and type in (copy-paste if you like):
RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Then click OK.
Messenger will then be uninstalled. For more detailed instructions and screenshots, go to,
