I just put together my 1st computer and i tried to set it
up with raid 0. I have an Asus A7N8X Deluxe, two WD 40
gig ata/100 hard drives and two highpoint rockethead
converters. I bought the 1st HD for my old computer a
couple months ago and had it set up on it so i don't know
if that would have an effect when trying to put it on a
new board. I put the two HD in the computer and followed
the instructions and it recongnized them both but i would
then get the message missing NTLDR and freeze? Do i need
ata/133 HD or is there something else wrong, i set up the
new HD normaly on an ide channel. Any help?

I forgot to say that this was set up for serial ata, the
jumpers on the hardrives would only be recongnized in
cable select position.

You need to install xp cd,boot to cd,look for the text,
"press any key to install raid or scsi drivers".
One other helpfull place is at TechNet at microsoft.com,
search,type:Create a RAID-5 volume

I tried that, it would fail and not recongnize that i
had any hd in my system and force me to restart.

One can not simply slap an existing drive into a system with a new drive and
call it RAID 0! There are logical steps one must take to run a RAID array
with any operating system!

First of all you didn't give very much info on what you had done! "Followed
the instructions" (for what?) doesn't say much. Assuming you have the board
set to recognize a RAID array - controler active in CMOS, then the next step
is to go into the RAID setup screen and actually create the array. This
will erase everything on both HDDs!!

Once you have created a RAID of array you need to tell your computer that
the array is what you want to boot from! With the Award BIOS you should
have many options to choose from. I do not have your board but it probably
has an option to boot from SCSI or S-ATA one of those should do the trick.

Then you need to do what the other poster mentioned which is have the
drivers for the on board RAID controler available and press F6 when asked.
If you want to try and use your current XP setup it will need to be cloned
to a seperate drive - most economical is as an image before creating the
RAID array. Then once you have setup the array clone the XP installation
back onto the array.

Even if you are able to clone and copy your OS to the RAID array it still
may require a "maintenance upgrade" from the CD to run properly.

Any way... Good Luck!
