You did NOT mention which version of Outlook that you are using. Each
version has something different, so don't expect old versions to have
the same features which are the cause for the release of a new version.
Outlook 2002 has support for HTTP e-mail accounts (but which only work
for MSN/Hotmail). Outlook 2000 and earlier did not have this feature;
it is a new feature that became available in Outlook 2002.

If you have Outlook 2000 and earlier, check out Hotmail Popper (do a
Google search; I don't feel like hunting around for it when you can do
the same). It runs as an HTTP-to-POP proxy on your computer. You then
define a POP e-mail account in Outlook and have it connect to the
Hotmail Popper proxy. Your "Hotmail" POP account connects to the POP
side of Hotmail Popper and the HTTP side of Hotmail Popper then connects
to the Hotmail webmail service (HTTP). This will also allow you to
access multiple Hotmail accounts whereas Outlook 2002 only lets you
define one HTTP e-mail account for Hotmail. I have not used Hotmail
Popper so I know nothing about its stability. It is free.
