Hi,

I recently set up SQL Server 2008 Express on my computer and figured out how
to detach the database for Outlook 2007 Small Business Manager and connect
it to the 2008 server.
But now when I open Outlook I get a message saying my database is not
running.
Does anyone know if I can fix this?
I think SQL server 2005 came with the software but seems Outlook needs a fix
to work with 2008.

Thanks

I'm not aware of any fix to make it work - but it should work if you adjust
security on the db - its much tighter in 2008. However, the error you're
getting seems more like Outlook can't find the db. Are you using the same
name for the sever and db as you had before?

I think I will have to leave the database until I learn how to otherwise.
My 2008 server has a different name (when setting it up I decided best to go
with what the program instiallation sugested, the 2005 server which comes
with Outlook named its server instance the same name as I had previously
after I reloaded it.

Background story is I downloaded SQL server 2008 and when installing it I
chose the new name and was told to delete 2oo5 tools. But then I found I
had to re-load 2005 edition to work and move existing databases. Outlook
lets me create a database using the program but does not let me choose a
server instance.

I assume it will only look for the server instance name on the 2008 version
if I had given the old name during installation. I have also recently
learnt that it is impossible to change the name of a SQL server instance
unless you re-load the software. That I seriously could not be bothered to
do right now as I have to do alot of stuffing around to make my databases
and associated programs work properly with the new server.
