can't get on to mlb.com message boards

I have no idea how to fix this short of re-formatting. I seem to be able to
get on to every site that I want, but for some reason I can't get the mlb.com
(major league baseball) message boards to open. I get the "can't find
server" "dns error" along with the white page. I've got another computer
hooked up to the same router and it will get to the boards with no problem.

Any ideas how to fix this?

Check for a file named HOSTS with no extension (not Hosts.sam). It may be a
hidden file. Open it with Notepad and remove any line referencing the site.
Or, rename HOSTS to OLDHOSTS

Found the file and renamed it to oldhosts. Still no luck getting on. It's
really strange that I can get onto every other site I've tried including
other message boards or forums. Any other ideas???

....
I clicked on that link and got the same message. Can't find server.

It's an alias. FWIW here is my nslookup reply for that server name.

<example>
Non-authoritative answer:
Name: forums.prosperotechnologies.com
Address: 66.37.219.2
Aliases: www.forums.mlb.com
</example>

Try going to that canonical name site first to make sure that you can
at least reach that address.

Also telnet 80 shows that you would not get anywhere without HTTP/1.1
though with all the extra headers that IE sends with its requests it somehow
manages to use HTTP 1.0 too.

Hmm... FiddlerTool shows that you don't go there directly anyway.
There are a few redirects through this server first: login.prospero.com
and you would probably need Cookies enabled on that site
to enable you to get back to the desired server.

Let's see what happens if we make Cookies a prompt
(e.g. using Options, Privacy, Advanced...)
but deny that site the use of them...

Just to be clear of what the test is, I'm starting here:

http://mlb.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/mlb/fan_forum/index.jsp

then clicking on Visitors.

Hmm... 2 prompts for Cookies, both "Blocked" but no apparent
change in what I am shown.

YMMV.

FWIW
