can't get on line

I am having a terrible problem. Every time I try to open
internet explorer I get a message "Internet Explorer has
encountered a promblem and must close down. Sorry" I tried
to download 6.0 and when I do it says that I have a newer
version and you cannot continue. I can.t remove Internet
Explorer either, it won't let me. I am using netscape right
now. PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!

wits end. Here you go:
To test with: Disable third-party browser extensions in
Internet Explorer:

1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control
Panel.
2. Double-click Internet Options.
3. Click the Advanced tab.
4. Under Browsing, clear the Enable third-party browser
extensions
(requires restart) check box.
5. Restart Internet Explorer.
