My computer locks up at the point where "Setup is
installing Windows" point.

I reformatted my HD which contained Win98 and tried to
install XP.

I cleared the CMOS to get new settings.
I went into my BIOS and set it to boot from CD.
Computer installed several files and got to the point
mentioned above and froze.

I shut down the computer then started it up and it went to
a C:>.

The HD has nothing on it and I can't get it to go to "D"
drive (DVD) from which I want to boot.

What will free me from this predicament?

I've found that the most common reason for this is flaky RAM. XP is very
resource demanding during setup. RAM that will work fine with lower versions
of Windows may cause setup to fail.

Thanks Harry. It is a "house brand" with Samsung chips.
512 MB PC 333 running an Athlon XP 1.4 GHZ. MSI KT3
Ultra2.

I have a 512 of Crucial I'm using to build a new system.
I'll try it.
