I finally bit the bullet and tried to set up a network between my laptop and
my pc.
XP pro on tower, XP home on laptop.
I followed the setup wifi home network wizard's advice and used a USB flash
drive.
I ran the wizard on the tower, and transferred the settings to the laptop.
That's as far as I got. The laptop can't see the PC and the PC can't see
the laptop.
The troube shooting guide had me changing this name, and that name, so now I
don't know what anything's name is anymore. Except my own, and I'm not
completly sure of that either.
Is there any step by step explainations somewhere that tells in ordinary
english
what is going on? I don't mean down to the bits and bytes level, just what
is
going on so I can set up a home network? The stuff I found assumed I know
more than I do.
I think I'm supposed to somehow make a name for the network and use
it on both computers, and also give each computer a name that is unique.
That's about all I was able to figure out, but I haven't figured out how to
do it.
Finally, is there a way to erase what I've done so far and start over,
or am I stuck in endlessly trying to untangle what I already did?
Thanks in advance to anyone willing to help me in my futile, moronic
endeavers.
