I just upgraded a box from Win98 to Win 2000pro because of
a problem with the old operating system. So after I
upgraded the box to Win2000pro I had to reinstall the
drivers for the Nic card. I installed the Nic card and now
under device manager it shows up as installed and working
fine. But the internet will not work. I have it connected
to a router. Checked connection and works fine with
different PC. But now in device manager under other
devices I have a couple of things there that aren't
installed. One is a communication controller that doesn't
seem to be installed. Do I need that to have the Nic card
to work? I tried installed drivers for the communications
controller but when it searched the 2000pro cd it came
back that there were no proper drivers for it. So if the
comm controller is the problem can someone please help me
out with how to resolve that problem and where i can find
the drivers for it. This is on a 4445 HP desktop PC.

Thanks much
Mark

You shouldn't need th com port to get network functionality. What you may want to try is to disable the com ports from the bios of
the system to make sure it's not trying to use the same IRQ. Are you able to ping the router from the box?

Thank you,
Mike Johnston
