I have a fresh install of Server 2003 and have already applied all service
paks and .net 2. Problem is, A tool I need requires .net 1.1. I'm supposed
to load .net 1.1. But, the installer reports, "The package you are
installing is already installed with the operating system...Blah blah blah".
Well, I can't find .net 1.1 in the add remove programs at all. Is there a
way to force the installer to reinstall 1.1 without having to comprimise a
clean server install with a ton of registry tricks?

You were right. It is installed. Directory and all is where is supposed to
be. I need to go beat up the FRX guy again and see what is next. thanks for
your help. If you ever need some MBS help, I'm in your debt.

Lol ! You're most welcome. Don't beat up the guy too hard !

What's MBS, by the way ? ;-)

Cerebrus.

MBS = Microsoft Business Solutions. Simply means we are the guys who do the
accounting side of the world. Specifically, I handle Great Plains and Small
Business Financials using a tool called Dexterity.

So, you get in a pickle with accouting software, I will get your path
pointed in the right direction.

Just curious, but shouldn't the .net 1.1 show up as an installed package, or
is it not there because its "part of the operating system W2003"?

Hi Greg,

Thanks for the explanation about MBS. The only accounting software I
have ever used is MS Excel ! (Now, don't laugh like that !) But thanks
for the offer, anyway.

As for FW 1.1, It doesn't show up in Win 2003, 'coz it is hidden and
always installed. It doesn't give you a choice whether or not to
install it. Same way that they don't ask you if you want to install
"Calculator" along with Windows ! Although this might be the silliest
analogy (comparing the .NET Framework to Calculator), they both don't
show up under Add / Remove programs. (Might appear under the Windows
Components tab, can't say.)

So, you're right about the "part of the operating system W2003" thing.

Regards,

Cerebrus.
