Cant get my machines IP

When ever I try to get my machines IP by typing ipconfig
in the run window, an msdos screen just flashes. Im not
sure if i have something set up wrong, but the dos window
wont remain. Could someone help?

Open the Command Prompt and type: IPCONFIG , and hit enter.
