I have a proxim 802.11 gold card and I'm running WIndows
XP. I'm trying to connect to a LAN. I can get the card to
recognize the network & get the signal--but I can't get
the other computer to issue an IP address so I can access
the internet. It is issuing IP addresses without any
problem to other computers (all MACs, ahem). It is set up
to broadcast IP addresses.

The problem might be that I cannot find anyplace--in the
Proxim Utility, in the Internet Options/Connections tab,
or in CTRL-Panel/Networking ) to enter the password for
the network.

I tried following the Microsoft Knowledge Base "HOW TO"
for installing a Wireless Access Point Manually--BUT,
when I get Step 4, CLick the Wireless Networks tab. I get
NO wireless networks listed--and there is no Preferred
networks section. There's nowhere to go from there.

HELP!!!

the base station might be configured to NOT broadcast its
ssid (station identifier), so you have to just know it. in
the wireless settings, enter the ssid manually as
a "preferred" network. also, make sure the base station
doesn't have access control enabled, or else has the MAC
address of your new card in the list.

Thanks for the advice--but I'm still stymied.
The network is set up to broadcast IP addresses. I'm not
sure what the ssid is. BUT--other users (with MACs) get
on just by specifying the name of the network and its
password--not an ssid.

But, to follow up on your advice: WHERE do I get to enter
the SSID manually as a "Preferred" network?? And WHERE
do I give the network password??

Might there be something in the network setup in CTRL
panel that I'm entering wrong?

THanks again.

Eileen
