Hi,
I desperately need help. I am taking an intro to computers class to try
to learn more about how to work my computer. My skills are very
limited. As an exercise, I tried to set the computer up for multiple
users, with passwords. I was successful, but somehow this changed the
entire look of everything---desktop, icons, etc. My desktop no longer
has all my shortcuts on it. So I went back and unchecked the "needs
password" box. I also deleted the user names I had added. Now I can't
get in at all, as a box comes up that says "administrator" and asks for
a password. I don't know what to do. Please, someone, help!

Somebody, somewhere (perhaps you) installed Windows 2000 into this
computer. By doing so, an administrator's password was entered. If not,
then it is just a blank. Either Enter or Spacebar + Enter. If this does not
allow a logon (and all your password choices have been exhausted), post
back here for more advice.

I got the computer from a guy who puts them together from old computers
that people throw out. I don't have any of the software he used to set
it up.

I tried this and it worked! Thank you SO MUCH :^)

no probs, many just accept the default offered when setting
2000 up, this coupled with auto matic logon and they are
always operating in the admin account without ever having to
enter a password.

my next advice would be to set admin password - and remember
it - then setup up a user account and always use it for your
access. when install software etc ofr all users log into
admin and install from there

well done
