I can only get on the net using firefox. For some reason IE7 won't work,
windows update will not work, but I can check my e-mail using outlook 2003.
What is going on? I can't get win updates without IE so I am lost.

You can set the machine to update automatically in the Security Center.

Control Panel - Security Center

Microsoft has switched to MSFT Update on June 6, 2005 but it's a spacy
company at times, and they haven't communicated it well at all in the 15 or
so months it's been out. Switch to it. It works better and has a BITS that
is superior.

Download MSFT Update

If IE7 isn't communicting with the net, try running SFC--System File
Checker.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html

If you run it this way, you will point it to the HD and scan and replace
with the latest files there.

Hi,

What build are you using and what type of network card do you have?

There is a known issue with some builds and Marvell Yukon network adapters.
There are several possible resolutions, but installing XP drivers over Vista
drivers resolved it for me.

We had a discussion in the XB 64 bit forum, where I had a similar problem. In
the end it was a DNS problem, solved by adding my ISP's DNS servers in the
list of DNS servers to be used, rather than using automatic DNS settings.
Don't ask me why but it worked!!

Worked for me too. Just added my router's IP address and now can connect.
IE worked fine when I first installed Vista but then quit connecting.
Connection was fine as I could update my antivirus and do email okay.
Installed Firefox and that connected fine. Browsed the newsgroup and found
your reply. Thanks.

IE just wouldn't connect. Checked my DNS using ipconfig/all and it was the
routers IP. Added that to the IPv4 DNS server and all was fine again.
