I'm trying to completely remove Internet Explorer 7, which the IE7
encouragement statement says I should be able to do. First I tried
Add/Remove programs, and it did not appear in the list. Next, I started the
system in safe mode and I saw it in the list and removed it. When I
re-booted, I noticed that the new icon for IE7 persisted. When I tried to
use it, the system indicated that it had to shut down the operating system
because of a serious error. It kept doing this until I finally ran System
File Checker (SFC /scannow). I tried to install IE6 from an old setup
file, and an error message appears indicating that a newer version of IE
was found on the PC and installation has terminated. When I try to run IE,
what looks like an IE6 (non-tabbed, which is what I want) screen appears,
but it tries to launch a bunch of other IE sessions, none of which will
fill. When I finally do access a webpage, it won't print.
I tried a system restore to a point just before installing IE7 (I created
one manually, called "before IE7 install) and all I see when System Restore
comes up is a calendar of checkpoints, none of which are the manual restore
points I created.
Trying to install IE7 has been a real nightmare and trying to uninstall it
has been an even bigger one. How can I force the system to revert to IE6
the way I had it just before trying to install IE7, or at least how can I
force it to completely remove all traces of he IE7 install and re-install
IE6?
Thanks in advance for the help,
Mark
