Hi,

I just bought a new computer with wireless technology
yesterday. The computer worked great for an hour and
then I tried to open an attachment w/ a .pdf through
webmail and my browser got stuck. I tried to close the
program and my computer immediately shut down. When I
turned it back on, it will not connect to the internet
eventhough my wireless signal is excellent. At first it
kept saying work offline or connect when I opened IE. I
then unclicked the work offline in the file menu. Now
when I open IE it looks for the site, I get about two
status bars and then it says unable to locate server and
page cannot be displayed.

I have a lynksis wireless base and when I check the
status I see status "excellent" and packets are both
being sent and received. Could there be any IE settings
and/or network settings I have to change? I've tried a
number of things and can not get anything to work.

Any help that can be provided would be greatly
appreciated.

Thank you so much,
David

Dear David,

Thank you for your posting.

Based on the information, in order to narrow down the issue to either
Internet connection or Internet Explorer, I suggest we perform the
following tests:

1. After the wireless connection made, please check if you can ping the
websites properly. Please open a command prompt and try to ping
www.yahoo.com (66.218.71.94) and www.msn.com (207.68.171.245). Can you ping
it properly?

2. Check if you can open the websites properly in IE using IP address? Open
IE and type 66.218.71.94 in the address bar, can you access the Yahoo web
page properly?

I am looking forward to your reply. If anything is unclear, please feel
free to let me know.

Thanks and have a good day!

Hi Benny,

Thank you so much for responding. I was not able to ping
any website with the wireless connection, not could I
just type in the IP in the address bar. I hope that
helps.

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks again,

David

I also forgot to mention two other things that may be
important. I tried to set up a home network to access
files on my old computer running windows 98. Both
computers were running on wireless technology. I followed
the wizard, but don't think I set it up properly.
Nevertheless I was able to locate my old computer and
share the files to my new computer. After the crash
neither computer could get back online through wireless
connection.

However, I was able to get my new computer back online
when I took the ethernet cord directly from my cable
modem (bipassing the lynksis system) and plugged it into
the back of my new computer. The computer went
immediately back online with no problems.

Do you think it could have to do something w/ the home
network I tried to set up? I have since disabled the mac
bridge, but still I can not connect through my wireless
technology.

I hope this additional information helps.

Thanks again so much,
Dave
