Hi:
I have Win XP Home and trying to get Ghost 2003 to run for the first time. I
want to make an image file of my C: partition onto an external USB hard drive.
I launch the Backup Wizard, select the C: partition to image to a file on the
USB drive. It then goes to "Advanced Settings" and asks me to choose drivers
for this device. I choose the USB 2.0 drivers I click OK, and then it starts
to launch Ghost. It shuts down Windows and starts again in a PC-Dos
environment. It gives me a message that says "ID2= USB 2.0 External Storage
Device", then nothing happens after that. I do not get the Ghost graphic
screen. I finally have to Crtl-Alt-Delete to get out. I've tried it 3 times.
Anyone have any ideas what is going on? Thanks for info.

Have you installed SP1 for the XP ?

Its got updated USB 2 drivers.

In fact some motherboard CDs wont let you install
the USB 2 drivers until SP1 has been applied to XP.

Yes, the PC came with Win XP SP1 when I got it couple months ago. The 2.0 USB
external enclosure works fine. But for some reason Ghost stops right after the
PC-DOS display says
"ID2= USB 2.0 Storage Device"

I tested Ghost by backing up my C: partition to another partition on the same
hard drive, and it worked fine. Not sure why it doesn't like the USB drive.

Time to put the boot into symantec and demand some answers on that.

I assume you've fdisked and formatted the external drive, and that you
can copy files onto it with windows? If so, it may well be that your
drive just isn't recognized by the ghost drivers.

That wouldn't really make any difference, though. Ghost 2003 includes
its own USB(2) / Firewire drivers for use in DOS mode. They're made by
Iomega. (i.e., your OS and/or OS Drivers would have no effect on
whether or not Ghost will work with your equipment)

Maybe try these updated drivers:
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...2000/NT/Me/98/XP&src=&pcode=ghost&svy=&csm=no
(watch line wrap, depending on your newsreader)
