I can't get attachments to open and I have looked under options to see if
there is something blocking them but can't see anything there.

I haven't had any problems opening hyperlinks, just attachments like .wav,
..jpg extensions.

What is the file extension of the attachment? (pps, eml, doc, etc.). If
you save it to your HDD first, can you open it from there?

Make sure attachments are enabled:
Tools, Safety Options, Security, uncheck "Block images..." and also
uncheck "Do not allow attachments..."

Also, go to Tools, Options, Read, and uncheck "Read all
messages in plain text".

If all that checks out, but the problem remains, which antivirus are you
running? Some of them cause problems with Windows Mail over time.

Sorry, "Safety Options" should be "Options".

Thanks for your help. I did all you suggested and still can't open them. The
extension is wmv, could that be the problem? The antivirus I am running is
Kaspersky. I just started using it a week ago, but I was having the same
problem before that.

Save the attachment to your HDD. Right click on it and Open With | Choose
Program. Select Windows Media Player and then check the box: Always use
this program to open this kind of file. This should enable you to open
these attachments in the future.

Which antivirus did you have before Kaspersky?
In a pinch, you can always save the attachment, then open it outside of
Windows Mail.

I had the free version of AVG. FYI - (in case anyone is interested), it is
not worth it to get the "free versions" of any antivirus.

When your computer was new, did it come with a trial version of
Norton or McAfee antivirus? If so, not only do those need to be un-
installed, but the uninstall needs to be followed up with a special
debris removal tool.

In the antivirus world, nothing is perfect. In my experience, free
versions of Avast, AVG, and Microsoft Essentials usually work
well enough.
