Had problem booting. One techsite thought it was my hard drive.I installed new drive, cloned problem to new drive(?)Any how wanted to format new drive and reinstall. Windows said can not format.Have XP home.New drive is seagate. Thanks for any advice.

I'm surprised Win XP can't format the disk during setup.

I presume you're booting from XP CD to start fresh install?

Go to the Seagate site and download their disk utilities software. There should be a facility in there to format disk or create a partition, but I'm not absolutely sure.

Well worth downloading and looking anyway.

Good luck.

As Floppy says, that is very strange. If it boots from the CD it shouldn't have a problem formatting it?

I'm a novice, not sure what I told you guys. Seagate drive came with disk.I cloned new disk with there program.Took out old drive, found i still had problem booting.Problem being:start up window freezes on logo for 1 min. then message comes up saying can't find pri.drive 1,can't find pri. drive 2,press F1 to continue which i do and computer boots. So my intention now is to format and do fresh install.WhenI right click on drive ,and click format I get message windows cannot format this drive. Hope this makes it clearer. Thanks for your help.

Boot with XP CD.

You will be able to format drive during install.

To boot from CD, you'll have to go into Bios and make primary boot device the CD/DVD drive.
