I partitioned my 10gig hd, but when i try formatting it, the program halts. It
happened with Partition magic and Fdisk. Does this mean my hd is Kaput?

It can do. It can also just be because you've
managed to bugger up the detail of the drive
type in the bios, or its been formatted with
different drive type details previously etc.

Try running clearhdd on the drive, setting the drive type
in the bios to AUTO or AUTO AUTO with an older bios,
and try fdisking and formatting again from scratch.

Just be careful you only use clearhdd on the 10GB drive
because the drive you apply it to will be gone forever.

I have the floppys of maxtor that give me that option of low level , would that
be just as effective as the program your recommending?

I wouldnt use that myself, it can load a bios overlay when that isnt a good idea.

clearhdd is a lot safer to use.
