Go to...Start / Run...type..."moviemk.exe"...
press...Enter. If Movie Maker is installed
it should launch.

Maybe the following articles will offer
some ideas:

Bad Installation Of Movie Maker 2.1

What can I do if I upgrade to Windows
XP SP2 and Windows Movie Maker 2.1
is not installed successfully?

You could try installing SP2 again...

Download Windows XP SP2

Generally, users install from the net but this
site allows you to download the complete
file to your hard drive before installing.

It's good for a network administrator because
you can burn it on a CD and install it on as
many computers as you need to.

And it's good for a single machine because
if you ever need to install it again...you'll have
it available without waiting for a download.

For some reason MM 2.1 has lost all of its video transitions. I have been
using the program successfully for a while and suddenly the video
transitions/effects are pretty much all gone (5 remain?). I have tried to
reinstall by downloading the sp2 again, but that didn;t work. I've gone
through some of the other checks too, but no luck - any advice?

Usually this is due to a DLL file either becoming corrupt, missing, or
needing to be registered.
See my website under Movie Maker -> Trouble Shooting -> Bad Installation
That page lists the DLL files that you should have so you can check the list
against what's on your computer.
It also tells you how to reregister the DLL's.
