"When I use the standard Windows Explorer shortcut, with the command line
simply C:\Windows\Explorer, it defaults to Desktop>[username]>Documents. How
can I make it open to [username], or if that's not possible, Desktop? Note
that these are the "special" folders I'm talking about, not their target
folders." It is no longer in my programs file.

I had a similar experience which had me climbing up the wall. This is the
target I am using for my Windows Explorer Desktop shortcut
%SystemRoot%\explorer.exe /select, C:\

FWIW it took me a long time to discover that Organise gives a drop down menu
enabling one to check a Menu Bar and a Navigation Pane. These were the keys
for me to get a similar looking Windows Explorer to that I use in Windows
Explorer. I have never liked the My Documents folders but there you are. I
access files through Windows Explorer and not through My Documents, Excel or
Word.

Hope this helps
